Grant Awarded to Sensor4Fruit Project

We’re excited to share that Tunable, together with our partners Bama and Nofima, has been awarded funding from Research Council of Norway (Norges forskningsråd) through an Innovation Project for the Industrial Sector (IPN).

The project aims to develop new gas sensor technology for monitoring the quality and condition of fresh produce in reefers during transport.

Today, global fruit and vegetable logistics largely have no form of monitoring or relies on indirect parameters like temperature. Yet, a significant share of produce is still lost due to undetected spoilage during long-distance transport.

We aim to change that

By combining multi-gas sensing with advanced analysis of VOC patterns, we are working towards enabling real-time insight into the biological state of fresh produce, directly inside containers during transport.

This opens up new possibilities to:

  • Detect early signs of spoilage
  • Better understand product condition in transit
  • Enable more informed and proactive logistics decisions

We want to move from reactive handling of quality issues to a more predictive and data-driven approach across the fresh produce supply chain.

We’re proud to collaborate with Bama and Nofima on this journey, and excited about the potential impact - both in reducing food waste and improving efficiency in global supply chains.
